Biombe, GHC's second village in Kisii District, is comprised of 6000 inhabitants. We began this CHEC in April 2021 and built the apiary in the fall of 2021. Since we had a large of number of participants interested in beekeeping we designated 50 hives to eventually put in the apiary. The apiary is also tucked away a bit from the village, in a beautiful secluded area, full of flowering trees and a water source. This apiary has been very successful for Greener Hills, and as of July 2023, over 17 hives have been colonized, with strong and healthy bee populations. The bees feast on pollen and nectar from eucalyptus and bottle brush trees, and a variety of wild flowers.
The apiary managers and Biombe beekeepers are knowledgable and enthusiastic, and we have plans to add more hives soon.
