Kiagware, GHC's fourth village in Kisii District, is our smallest village to date, with only 1,050 inhabitants. We began this CHEC in November 2021 and built the apiary in the late summer of 2022. Kiagware is far from Kisii town, and sits in a very lush valley in western Kenya. Since it is quite remote, land is plentiful and our CHEC had plenty of space to build a beautiful apiary--one that will can eventually accommodate over 50 hives. As of March 2024, over 19 hives are colonized and in the apiary, and our most recent harvest produced 21 liters of honey from 3 hives!
The flora in the valley is lush and plentiful, full of flowering trees, and the River Kuja nearby. This apiary has been very successful thus far and we imagine expanding the apiary in the near future.
